TERRORISTS USE OF DRONES HAS NYPD ON ALERT

Terrorists have grown increasingly inventive with their use of drones — and NYPD officials fear they could start using them to execute attacks in the Big Apple and other American cities.

“Our job is to look forward . . . in terms of emerging threats that could affect an urban area like New York City,” Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence and Counterterrorism John Miller told reporters after a House subcommittee on emergency preparedness hearing on Monday.

“We are seeing terrorists overseas not only experiment, but execute, deadly operations using drones,” he said.

“Again, this is not new. All you have to do is go online and look at the videos that terrorist groups have already posted online about the arming of drones and their use and attacks overseas.”

Miller recommended that Department of Homeland Security grants be used to help protect the city from unmanned aerial threats.

He said the NYPD would ultimately assess its “technological ability to take control of a drone.”
