TiNYg Conference notes

Dear TINYg member

At the London conference, we heard about a number of events and initiatives that may be of interest to members.

  1. Register of Chartered Security Professionals

The Register of Chartered Security Professionals was established under a Royal Charter issued to the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals in the UK and launched in 2011.  Registrants use CSyP as a post nominal and are called Chartered Security Professionals.

Becoming a Chartered Security Professional is a means of being recognised and continuing to represent the highest standards and ongoing proficiency. It is the gold standard of competence in security

Chartered Security Professionals comply with a Code of Conduct, a Professional Disciplinary Code, and complete Continuous Professional Development each year. Although established in the UK, applicants from outside the UK, are welcome to apply.

  1. Worshipful Company of Security Professionals  (WCoSP)

WCoSP Membership

Membership of the Company is drawn from the Security Industry in its’ widest sense and includes leading security professionals from the industrial and retail sectors, serving and retired members of the police and armed services, security consultants, academics, heads of security for corporate businesses, investigators and electronic surveillance practitioners.

  1. Level 5 Management Award in Corporate Risk and Crisis Management

In association with our colleague Dr David Rubens, TINYg are offering a three day, Ofqual regulated Level 5 management award for £1200 per person. (Discounts may be available.)

This course is designed for experienced security, risk and crisis managers who are working in large organisations, and who are being given increasing responsibility for issues such as strategic risk policy, business continuity planning, crisis management, training and exercising and other ‘softer’ issues such as resilience and capability development.

The courses have been tested and proven with corporate and government clients across the world, and we are confident that whatever sector you are involved in, both you and your organisation will gain real benefit from this course, both from the information we will give you but also from the opportunity to interact with other people involved in much the same activities, and sharing many of the same challenges.

  1. Charity Collection – Charlie Gard Foundation – Fighting for Florence

Thank you to those who donated at the London conference, many of you didn’t have any cash on you and asked if it was possible to pay online.

https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/fightingforflorence

The following overview is provided by Florence’s parents. Your support is hugely appreciated and anything that you can afford to donate, will be gratefully received.

Our daughter Florence-rose, at just before eight-months-old, was rushed to Broomfield Hospital after suffering from a seizure with jerking type movements.

Doctors tried different medicines continuously throughout the night to try and stop the seizure, but they were unsuccessful, and Florence was put into an induced coma, rushed to Great Ormond Street Hospital, and then placed into Paediatric Intensive Care Unit with a one-to-one nurse. Eventually, after numerous tests and lumber punctures, the doctors decided to try and bring Florence out of a coma and allow her to breath without assistance. Florence took longer than expected to wake up, even with what they called the anti-dote, which was meant to wake her up instantly.

When Florence did wake up, she was like a new born again and wasn’t her usual, happy self. She was taken to the neurology ward where she was on high dependency and was still continuously twitching. After her genetic tests came back myself and Florence’s dad were taken to a room where we knew we’d receive some truly dreadful news. How your life can change in an instant. Our perfect princess was diagnosed with a mitochondrial disease called POLG, or Alpers syndrome, and also continuous epilepsy. We were told there was no treatment for this disease and her life expectancy would be a few months to a few years.

However, as Florence’s parents, we want to do everything in our power to give our little girl the very best quality of life that we can, so when we heard about a potential treatment, we knew we had to keep fighting. There is preclinical research that suggests there may be a medication that will help Florence, so we are fundraising in the hope that we will be able to access this medication and give Florence the very best chance at a meaningful and quality life.

1 in 100,000 people are affected by POLG, and there is currently no cure. We need to find a cure, but in the mean time we will continue to fight for a better quality of life for our beautiful Florence.
