A teenager has appeared in court today charged with possessing a knife linked to a terror plot and trying to encourage terrorist attacks over a WhatsApp group chat.
Ayub Khan, 19, is accused of possessing a knife connected with the 'commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism contrary to Section 57 of the Terrorism Act 2000'.
Khan is further accused of sending terrorist material to a group chat via WhatsApp in May this year with the intention of encouraging acts of terrorism.
The teenager, from Fisher Close, Ealing, west London appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court speaking to confirm his name, date of birth and address, during the brief hearing.
Khan faces three counts of dissemination of terrorist material and one count of possessing an article connected with the commission of an act of terrorism, between October 18 and November 17 this year.
District Judge Paul Goldspring remanded Khan in custody until December 17 ahead of a preliminary hearing at the Old Bailey.
Khan was arrested by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command with Mohammad Zubair Khan, 21, as part of the same operation on 16 November.
Zubair Khan, of Ealing, is charged with eight counts of dissemination of terrorist material.
He has also been remanded in custody ahead of a preliminary hearing at the Old Bailey on 3 December.
