At least 38 people have died and more than a hundred have been wounded in a twin suicide bombing in the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Officials at the country’s Interior Ministry said two bombers blew themselves up at Tayran Square – a busy street market – during rush hour on Monday.

Emergency services rushed to the market, which is usually crowded with labourers seeking work, before security forces sealed off the area.

In photos posted to social media, bodies could be seen scattered and items of clothing can be seen strewn across the blood-stained streets.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, which also hurt 105 people.

Large-scale attacks have decreased significantly in the city and in other parts of the country since security forces retook most of the territory once held by Islamic State militants.
