Man convicted of sharing terrorist material

Sabbir Miah of east London has been convicted of posting a Daesh propaganda video on social media.

Miah posted the video to hundreds of people on a private group on 14 June 2021. The video reportedly glorified people who were members of, and fought for Daesh.

The conviction follows an investigation by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command.

Officers from the Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit (CTIRU) found the post to be in breach of Terrorism Act legislation.

Miah was arrested in November 2021 and was charged with dissemination of a terrorist publication.

He was found guilty at the Old Bailey on Friday after denying the offence. He is due to be sentenced on 4th October.

In 2017, Miah was convicted of five counts of disseminating a terrorist publication and was jailed for three years and four months.

Commander Richard Smith, who leads the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said: “Miah was clearly determined to seek out and share this extremist content online again, even in the knowledge that it could result in a further terrorism conviction, and being jailed for a second time.

“Terrorist propaganda is extremely damaging to those viewing it and to society as a whole, and we work hard with our partners to identify and arrest people like Miah, and to get this kind of harmful content removed from the internet.”
