Terrorist convicted after counter terror probe caged for breaching 'strict' requirements
A convicted terrorist was caged at the Old Bailey on Friday following an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East.
Hartlepool's Mohammed Salah Uddin was handed a 15-month prison sentence for breaching his terrorist notification requirements. The 38-year-old appeared at the Central Criminal Court for five breaches of his Part 4 Notification requirements. He will also serve 12 months on licence.
Uddin, of Hutton Avenue, in the town centre area, was arrested in February 2023 on suspicion of breaching his notification requirements after failing to notify police of phone numbers and email addresses he was using. He was recalled to prison shortly after arrest.
In July 2023, Uddin was charged with five breaches of his Part 4 Notification requirements, and he pleaded guilty to all offences in court in August.
Head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East, Detective Chief Superintendent James Dunkerley said: “Those convicted of terrorism offences are subject to strict notification requirements and are monitored very closely by police. We take breaches of any kind very seriously and will not hesitate to prosecute offenders who fail to comply with their conditions.”
Uddin was sentenced to seven years imprisonment in 2016 after pleading guilty to preparing for an act of terrorism under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006 following an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing South East. He was also made subject of a 10 year notification requirement under part four of the Counter Terrorism Act 2008.
