Cleethorpes man charged with terrorism offences

A 25-year-old man who was arrested in Cleethorpes has been charged with terror offences and is due to appear in court today.

Mohammed Mahfuz Ahmad, of Crow Hill Avenue, Cleethorpes, has been charged with two counts of disseminating terrorist publications and another of encouraging terrorism. Humberside Police assisted counter-terrorism police in securing his arrest on Thursday.

In a statement, Counter Terrorism Policing said: "A man from Humberside has this evening (Friday, April 19) been charged with disseminating terrorist publications and encouraging terrorism following an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East.

"The 25-year-old from Cleethorpes is charged with two counts of Disseminating a Terrorist Publication, contrary to Section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006 and one count of Encouraging Terrorism, contrary to Section 1 of the Terrorism ACT 2006.

"He was arrested as part of an intelligence led investigation, with support from Humberside Police. Two residential properties were searched in connection with this arrest."

Ahmad was due to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on Saturday 20th April 2024.
