The United States and Pakistan have reaffirmed their commitment to stronger cooperation on counterterrorism, border security and dismantling networks that support extremist groups.

The fourth round of the US-Pakistan Counterterrorism Dialogue was held in Washington on Tuesday, 4 August.

According to a statement issued by the US State Department, the talks were co-chaired by Gregory LoGerfo, the department’s counterterrorism coordinator, and Nabeel Munir, a special secretary at Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry.

During the discussions, the two sides reviewed the latest regional security threats and considered ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, improve border security and disrupt support networks for terrorist groups.

In their joint statement, the United States and Pakistan stressed their determination to confront groups that threaten the safety of their citizens and regional stability.

The statement said the two countries would combat groups including Islamic State Khorasan Province, al-Qaeda, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, the Balochistan Liberation Army and its affiliated branches.

Both governments pledged to continue their counterterrorism cooperation to protect their citizens and as part of a long-term vision for regional peace, prosperity and stability.
